About Terrace and area
Located 147 kilometers east of Prince Rupert and the Pacific Ocean, Terrace is the hub of B.C.'s northwestern region. Nestled in the fertile Skeena River Valley, Terrace is surrounded by snow-capped mountains that stand tall in crystal clear skies, presiding majestically over vast green forests, and providing the pure glacier waters that feed the Skeena, Nass, Kispiox, and Bulkley Rivers among others.
The lakes, rivers and woodlands are teaming with wild life. In all four seasons, this family-oriented, multicultural community, and the surrounding region, is an outdoor enthusiasts’ paradise. (http://www.city.terrace.bc.ca/)
British Columbia’s Northwest is a region of parallel histories: First Nations, and the Colonial settlers. It is the traditional home of the Nisga’a, the Tsimshian, the Haida, the Tlingit, the Gitxsan, Dene Thah, Dunne-za, and the Carrier Sekani First Nations peoples. Settlers in towns and cities from Massett to Houston have taken a place beside them in these traditional territories.
